Design Concepts: Advertisement Banners Best Practices

Banner advertisements promote a brand. They are visually engaging, and grab the user’s attention. They can be static or animated. They add energy and fun to an application page. Banner advertisements direct users to specific sites, and can re-target the audience.

Keep in mind the following basics when designing advertisement banners.

Advertisement banners should:

  •  be persuasive

  •  drive the user to the site

  •  target an identified audience

  •  deliver a clear message

  •  be creative in design

  •  introduce products

  •  aim for simplicity

  •  create a demand

Study the following banner ads. The first advertisement banner is from the New Bern city app using one image. The second and third include a banner ad use multiple images found on the Drop In Gym business app. A tap on an advertisement banner brings the user to the company's website.

Advertisement banners appear on pages that do not have a sponsor footer. The Sponsor Footer component provides five buttons at the bottom of an app page. These buttons remain at the bottom of the app page regardless of the user scrolling up and down on the app page. Below are three education applications that use a Sponsor Footer. Tapping on any of the sponsor icons takes the user to the sponsor’s website.
