Lesson 3 Activity

Applying Design Concepts

You have been asked to design an education application for the Athletic Director (AD) for the school. The AD hopes to use the application to communicate with the community, parents, and students.

Move to Lesson 3 Connecting Pages in the Training App. Use the first three steps of Design Thinking to design the home page and sub-pages. Keep in mind the 3-Click Rule when designing sub-pages.

Empathize Consider the user experience. Who are the users? What should their experience be? Define the user experience based on the teacher’s goal for the application. Think this through very carefully and be complete in your answer. You might consider creating a list of needs for each user.

Define What problem(s) will you need to solve as you design the app for the identified users? Identify the problem(s).

Ideate What ideas do you have that might solve the problem(s). This is a brainstorming exercise. Write down at least ten ideas - more if possible. All ideas are kept at this point as possibilities. You’ll sort through them in the next lesson.

Be sure to use copyright free images on your pages and subpages. Your pages should use following Link Types:

  • Website

  • Website framed

  • Application page

Lesson 3 Troubleshooting Questions

As an AppyCity Designer, you should be able to answer design questions posed by those new to building an AppyCity application.

  1. What are two reasons for unresponsive buttons when they are tapped?

  2. Why do phone screens turn white when app buttons are pressed?

  3. In connecting a website using website framed the screen goes white. What does this mean and what should be done to correct the connection?
